Did you know, strawberries are technically NOT BERRIES?! While bananas and watermelons are, scientifically speaking, BERRIES! Turns out that to qualify as a berry, a fruit needs to have 2 or more seeds, so a strawberry, which proudly calls itself a StrawBERRY, isn’t even a berry. Confirming the age old saying of “What’s in a name!” Whatever the scientific definition may be, I would remain just as faithful to you, my dear glistening, squishy strawberries! I would always pick you for my smoothies, and nearly always pick you for froyo (but please don’t expect loyalty when it comes to ice cream, you know it’s not really you there, but your evil, artificial flavour :P). But, I would still pick you for my lip products because you are a safe bet! Like I did when I got The Body Shop Strawberry Lip Butter!

Packaging: The Body Shop Strawberry Lip Butter comes in a miniature version of TBS’ large body butter pots, so it is pretty adorable looking! The plastic pot is a deep raspberry red/fuschia in color and the lid is black. Just like the body butter, it has an image of a gorgeous shiny strawberry on top, which actually makes it look quite inviting. The ingredients and other product details are mentioned on the bottom of the pot. Yes, pots are slightly inconvenient to use for lip balms but I am a sucker for cute little pots so I always end up buying pot packaged lip balms. Call it my obsession! For this particular lip butter, the packaging was one of the major factors that made me get this.
Color and Scent: The lip butter is a very very pale pink in color, almost like well made strawberry ice cream. Talking of strawberry ice cream, it smells just like that! It smells deliciously yummy, at least if you love the scent of strawberries. I do, and the smell made me completely adore this butter!
My Experience: The pot packaging does come with its issues of hygiene, but I never take chances and never use my hands with such packs, instead preferring to kiss the container instead! Till now, the level of product in the tub is high enough for me to kiss the contents and leaving enough product on my lips. But once the butter is used more, I’m afraid I would not be able to use it like this 🙁 Now coming to the effectiveness and texture of The Body Shop Strawberry Lip Butter, this feels just like real butter on the lips, albeit with the yummy scent of strawberries. Leave that aside and take a moment to appreciate that it EVEN TASTES LIKE STRAWBERRY CREAM! It is sweet and as yummy as it smells!! I am mostly licking it off my lips as soon as I apply it because of this sweet reason! Hence, it becomes one of the best romantic gifting options! Seriously, what could make your partner get more kiss-worthy than something so sweet, buttery and delicious?!
Talking of its moisturizing properties, it does immediately provide some moisture to the lips, but a couple of hours later, I find my lips getting quite dry, so I have to end up applying more and this goes on. Especially the edges of my lips feel particularly dry post applying this. That’s sad because I had really wanted this to work well for me…Plus, being loaded with a great amount of natural butters and oils (it even has castor oil!), it’s a shame this doesn’t work as well as it should. I guess you can’t get everything in the world. I had previously used TBS’ Chocomania lip butter and had faced similar moisturization troubles. But frankly, I am not as disappointed with The Body Shop Strawberry Lip Butter because its taste and smell more than makes up for its lack of divine moisturizing capabilities. I have tried this as a night time lip balm and it worked quite passably, so I guess I will end up using it one way or the other! Not a bad deal at all at Rs 250 (TBS has slashed the prices of some of its fast selling products such as shower gels, lip butters and some body lotions!)

PROs and CONs:
- The adorable red mini pot is a real eye catcher!
- The strawberryumilicious scent and flavour, plus it is sweet!
- Does provide some immediate moisture to the lips
- Not too expensive considering it leaves you with immediately kiss-worthy lips! Plus for the same reason, I recommend it as…
- …a great romantic gifting option for your partner!
- Not extremely effective as a lip moisturizer as it leaves lips dry a couple of hours post application, so it quite defeats the purpose, no?
- The pot asks you to dip your hands into it, but yeah, you can use it like I do! Just kiss the damn thing! But after you’re halfway through, you will have to end up using your fingers…too bad!
Final Verdict: I like The Body Shop Strawberry Lip Butter a lot! Not love it, but like it enough to recommend because if you are a fan of great smelling (plus tasting!) lip balms like I am, you will definitely like to have your hands on this one. If however, efficacy is your keyword, you should give this one a pass!
